Hey There
While I have touched a little on my training and what I do, here I dive into my personal journey here about how I got here to be a doula.
All About Me
I am a spouse, a parent to four beautiful children, an assistant infant teacher at daycare, a family (and soon to be community) herbalist, and lover of all things of the natural world. Some of my favorite things are hiking, reading, researching, and spending time with babies!
It was shortly after giving birth the second time, over 9 years ago, that I learned what a doula was. I have taken many paths throughout the course of my life, but all share the same core: supporting others. I have been working in daycare since I was in high school, but have also tried jobs working with people with disabilities and the elderly. Consistently I have found myself more and more drawn to babies and parenthood as life progresses. Birth is such a beautiful part of the circle of life and I want to be able to enrich this important experience for others.
It is incredibly important for me to provide my services and advocacy to those who don't have much accessibility to a doula among other resources. I am confident in saying that the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities can rely on me to be fundamental in their safe and respected birth experience, as well as teens and others who struggle financially.
One last thing I'd like to tell you about me is that I am a CODA, which stands for Child of Deaf Adult(s). Because of this, signing is my native language. I use a blend of SEE and ASL and also attended ASL and Deaf Culture courses in college to expand the knowledge further than what I knew from being raised by Deaf parents. I have the ability to directly support Deaf parents throughout pregnancy, labor, and birth without the need of a certified interpreter.
